Legacy modernisation & migration

Move your system forward with a clear plan.

We assess older software and plan practical changes to its code, platform, integrations or data. The starting point is understanding the business workflows the system supports and the limitations that need to be addressed.

Where we can help

Preserve useful workflows while planning the changes.

Technology that is difficult to maintain.

Assess ageing dependencies, operating environments or components that limit further work.

Interfaces or integrations that need to change.

Improve selected parts of the system while considering how the rest of the business uses it.

Data or platform migration.

Plan a move to a different system or environment with defined mappings, validation and transition arrangements.

Development scope

What the work can include.

System assessment.

Review functions, business rules, code, dependencies, infrastructure and integration points.

Modernisation options.

Compare extending, refactoring, replacing components or rebuilding a defined part of the system.

Interfaces and services.

Develop the selected changes around agreed workflows and integration requirements.

Data migration and validation.

Define mappings, migration steps and checks for the records involved.

Transition and handover.

Plan testing, cutover, recovery arrangements and documentation appropriate to the agreed changes.

Deliverables & handover

A staged route from the current system to the next.

An assessment can establish the options and migration plan before implementation is agreed. Deliverables depend on the selected route and the parts of the system being changed.

Assessment and plan.

Findings, dependencies, practical options and the agreed stages.

Selected implementation.

Replacement components, updated services or migration tools and validation records where included.

Transition materials.

Testing and cutover arrangements, recovery planning and handover documentation for the agreed work.

How we work

Assess. Plan. Validate. Transition.

  1. Current system
  2. Assessment & options
  3. Staged changes & data validation
  4. Transition & handover.
An illustrative migration approach; the sequence and operating arrangements are defined for each system.
  1. Map the current system.

Identify workflows, data, dependencies and the people or systems affected.

  2. Compare the options.

Define what to retain, what to change and how to divide the work into stages.

  3. Implement and validate.

Develop the selected changes and check functionality, integrations and any data movement.

  4. Prepare the transition.

Agree cutover, recovery and handover arrangements, then plan subsequent support.

Assessment focus

Make the transition requirements explicit.

Business continuity.

Identify essential workflows, acceptable interruption and the needs of affected users.

Data and validation.

Understand sources, formats, quality, destination requirements and how migrated records will be checked.

Dependencies and access.

Review integrations, infrastructure and the access needed to change the system.

Cutover and recovery.

Agree readiness checks, transition responsibilities and the appropriate recovery arrangements.

Practical questions

Before we get started.

Does modernisation always mean a full rebuild?

No. An assessment may support updating components, introducing new services or changing the system in stages. The decision follows the business requirements and the condition of the system.

Can you migrate our existing data?

Data migration can be included after reviewing the sources, formats, quality and destination requirements. The scope includes the agreed mappings, validation and transition arrangements.

Can the current system stay in use during the work?

That depends on the architecture and the changes involved. We assess continuity requirements and agree how any interruption, parallel operation or staged cutover should be handled.
